I was on Facebook today and saw that a friend of mine, an Apple fanatic, has posted a link to an interview snippet from the legendary Steve Jobs on her updates.

So here’s a little on what Jobs (pun unintended) commented on Apple’s strategy to employment in times of the economic gloom.

“What I told our company was that we were just going to invest our way through the downturn, that we weren’t going to lay off people, that we’d taken a tremendous amount of effort to get them into Apple in the first place — the last thing we were going to do is lay them off.” (For more, read here.)

Gaming giant Electronic Arts, the biggest player in the industry, cuts 6% of its workforce. (Read more from the article from TechCrunch here.) It’s been quite a bloodbath in the tech industry when it comes to jobs. TechCrunch’s layoff tracker has a somewhat fair estimation, and at last count, the number stands at 38, 853 across the past 2 months( the latest update can be found here). It’s not all grey skies however, there are opportunities elsewhere, as most of these layoffs are happening within the USA, though it’s stirring up quite a buzz in other parts of the world that hasn’t been directly affected by the US economy. A great article about this can be found here . So keep that chin up! It not all gloom and doom.
