Teenage unemployment reached 21.6 percent in February, the highest it has been in 17 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate for black teens is 38 percent.

The census will put more than 1.4 million people on the federal payroll over the next year, making it the largest peacetime government jobs program ever, according to the Census Bureau. The first 140,000 will start work in April. Most of the rest will be hired early in 2010.

Job posting Web site CareerBuilder has slashed 300 jobs, or about 15 percent of its workforce, according to the Chicago Tribune. The cuts were across the board, but mostly in its small business segment, the Tribune reports, citing chief marketing officer Richard Castellini.
