Chicago Tribune – Teens face more adult competition for jobs
Teenage unemployment reached 21.6 percent in February, the highest it has been in 17 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate for black teens is 38 percent.
The Seattle Times – Census jobs timely boost for sagging U.S. economy
The census will put more than 1.4 million people on the federal payroll over the next year, making it the largest peacetime government jobs program ever, according to the Census Bureau. The first 140,000 will start work in April. Most of the rest will be hired early in 2010.
